EAPL conference Bari
Several members of the Amsterdam Laboratory for Legal Psychology (ALLP) attended this year’s EAPL conference in Bari, Italy. From 17 to 19 September, the historic city provided the backdrop for stimulating discussions, new research insights, and opportunities to (re)connect with colleagues from across the field of legal psychology.

The conference began on Thursday with presentations by Annelies Vredeveldt, who presented From dance floor to courtroom: A field experiment on the impact of party drugs and alcohol on eyewitness evidence, Timon Udo, who presented Rapid testing on the crime scene and investigative decision-making, and Romie Schonewille, who presented An exploration of a legal psychological approach to fact-finding and decision-making in the Dutch child protection system.
On Friday, Jasper van der Kemp and Eva van Rosmalen took the stage. Jasper presented Decoding deception: A crime script analysis of behavioural processes in art forgery, while Eva shared her work in The quality of expert witness reports in legal psychology.
The conference concluded on Saturday with a presentation by Tanja van Veldhuizen, titled Tell me everything there is to know about Bari: How culture shapes origin stories in refugee status determination.
Beyond the presentations, the conference offered plenty of opportunities to exchange ideas and discuss with researchers from around the world but also offered a chance to reconnect with old colleagues and meeting new ones.
